The State of Evaluation in the Australian Government 2026 report was prepared by the Australian Centre for Evaluation (ACE) in the Department of the Treasury.

This report reflects findings gathered from across the commonwealth on the following domains:

  • Volume and type of evaluations
  • Evaluation network, leadership and governance
  • Use of evaluation evidence
  • Capability building efforts
  • Culturally appropriate and ethical evaluation.

This report builds on information published in the State of Evaluation in the Australian Government 2025 report.

Findings from this report will contribute to monitoring the progress of the Strengthening Evaluation in the Australian Government – Action Plan 2026–2030.

The ACE team is grateful to all agencies who contributed to the State of Evaluation process. We look forward to working together to embed a culture of evaluation and learning across the Australian Government.
