In December 2025, the Australian Government announced a review of the Electric Car Discount (ECD). The Review was undertaken by the Australian Centre for Evaluation, at the Australian Treasury, and the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water.
The report looks at the effectiveness of the ECD and whether it should continue. The review recommended that the government consider changes to better manage the costs of the ECD. The Government announced changes to the ECD on 5 May 2026.
